Our WFR course meets the guidelines set by the Wilderness Medical Society when the Prerequisites are met. Click here to see these guidelines. Our course is 34 hours in length. The Wilderness First Responder Course is designed for trip leaders, members of search and rescue organizations, youth group leaders, scouting organizations, or for any back country traveler looking for more than basic knowledge on wilderness medicine techniques. Students receive instruction on how to deal everything from minor cuts and scrapes to medical emergencies and trauma. Course topics include airway management, heat & cold injuries, basic anatomy and assessment, orthopedic injuries, wound care, bites and stings, common injuries, burns, lightning, altitude illness, wilderness medical problems, patient comfort and protection, documentation and other legal issues, and the basic wilderness first aid kit.
