In this role, Don is responsible for the teaching curriculum and quality assurance for classes taught by CDS. Don has been involved in EMS as a Paramedic for over 15 years. In this area he has worked in both hospital and community based ALS services giving him a broad medical background. In addition to his EMS experience, he has been active in adventure outdoor sports, including high angle rock, high altitude mountaineering and winter mountaineering, since the early 1970’s. Don is also involved in search and rescue both in caves and in the wilderness. Because of his vast EMS and SAR experience, Don began educating others in these fields. His teaching positions include Educational Officer for the Wilderness Emergency Medical Services Institute (WEMSI), Director of Education with CDS Outdoor Inc., Instructor with the Eastern Region National Cave Rescue Commission (ER NCRC), Adjunct Faculty for the Center For Emergency Medicine in Pittsburgh and Instructor for the Pennsylvania State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in the area of Search Management. Don also is an instructor for a number of classes provided by the American Red Cross. Don is a member of the National Association of Search and Rescue, The Mountain Rescue Association and the Wilderness Medical Society Don resides with his wife in Valencia, PA, a town outside of Pittsburgh. |
